Blaby District Spartans Training Session
OUR STORY
Blaby District Spartans Inclusive Football Club is specifically for players aged 16+ who have a variety of different needs ranging from Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, Downs Syndrome, Social Anxiety, Severe Asthma, Autism, Epilepsy and Hearing Impairment to name just a few.
Many of the players and coaches started their football at Oadby & Wigston FC within their Inclusive section, and were a part of this for 10 years, playing through the Junior and Youth sections before starting their own Adult Team.
Over time this section grew and grew, and we now have, with the recent addition of a green team. Three teams that play in each of the Leicestershire & Rutland Inclusive League divisions www.lrifl.com and have our first female player to join our green team.
We play a format of small sided football, either 5 or 6 a side and our youth team at the time and now our red and purple teams have enjoyed successes throughout the years.
Outside the league, we try to take part in other tournaments, including winning the Richard Harris Memorial Cup in 2018, getting through to the semi-finals and finals of the FA People’s Cup over the years, runners up at the Lytham St. Annes Inclusive Tournament 2019 & 2022 in Blackpool and finally winners of the George Best Community Cup in 2018 in Northern Ireland.
In 2019, with a growing squad of players, we decided to start our own standalone club ready for the 2020-21 season.
We are currently training at Countesthorpe Academy, along with grants secured from Severn Trent Community Fund, A.T. Services, Blaby Council’s Everyone Active and Community Funds, and sponsorship from local mortgage broker company Nestegg Mortgages we have a bright future ahead of us.
